A little girl and her song captivated millions of viewers during the opening ceremony of the Beiing Olympics. But what they saw was not what they heard. Lin was lip-syncing to the sound of another girl, 7-year-old Yang Pelyi, who was heard but not seen, apparently because she was deemed not cute enough. "The reason was for national interest," said Chen Qigang, the ceremony's musical director, in a state radio interview. "The child on camera should be flawless in image, internal feeling and expression ... Lin Miaoke is excellent in those aspects." (source:CNN)


I find this news appalling. How can these people think that a child must be flawless in the eyes of the adult world, whatever that might mean... I have been putting off watching the Olympics because of the chinese state's constant violations to human rights. This little piece of news does the trick for me!

Jag fattar bara inte! Hur kan man påstå att ett barn måste vara "perfekt" i vuxnas ögon, vad innebär "perfekt"? Jag har skjutit upp att titta på OS pga Kina's inställning till de mänskliga rättigheterna. Den här lilla nyheten gör susen för mig!

La bambina Lin Miaoke ha incantato il mondo con la sua canzone all'inaugurazione dei giochi olimpici. Ora viene rivelata la veritá: Lin Miaoke non ha cantato una nota, ha solo mimato. E´stata scelta per la sua apparenza mentre Yang Peiyi di sette anni, ha cantato la canzone ma non è stata considerata sufficientemente bella per apparire in pubblico. Chen Qigang, responsabile della musica all'inaugurazione, spiega che si è pensato in primo luogo al meglio della nazione, la bambina nell'arena doveva essere "perfetta nell'apparenza, nel sentimento interno e nell'espressione".

Inconcepibile! Come si puó pensare che una bambina debba essere "perfetta" agli occhi degli adulti? Cosa significa poi "perfetta"? Ho rimandato a guardare le olimpiadi per le continue violazioni ai diritti umani da parte della Cina. Questa piccola notizia mi ha dato il tocco finale.
