At this very moment (I think) Mats and his his dad are sailing a small lifeboat along the coast of the Baltic sea. The owner of the ferry that Mats works on wanted to chuck the little boat and was happy for the opportunity to get rid of it when my excited husband offered to take it. Our children always love to hear the stories of when their father was a child, of his and their grandfather's "slightly" unplanned adventures and fishing trips. The half way up the Kebenekaise with wooden clogs remains their very favourite. This morning Mats got up, made sandwiches and a thermos of coffee. He took out some sea charts and his rubber boots and drove to his father's cabin, where they took out the old boat-engine and inspected it. Then they drove to the docks to lower the lifeboat and now...who knows where they are? I just hope they had the common sense to bring two life-jackets.

In questo preciso momento (credo) Mats e mio suocero stanno navigando una piccola scialuppa di salvataggio lungo la costa del mar Baltico. Il proprietario del traghetto dove lavora Mats, voleva liberarsi di una vecchia scialuppa ed ha accolto con piacere l'offerta entusiasta di mio marito di prenderla lui. Ai nostri figli piace ancora stare ad ascoltare quando Mats racconta delle sue avventure e gite di pescha, spesso poco "pianificate", con suo padre quando era bambino. La mezza scalata del Kebenkaise con gli zoccoli rimane la storia preferita. Questa mattina Mats si è alzato di buon'ora, ha preparato panini ed un termos di caffé. Ha tirato fuori alcune carte nautiche e gli stivali di gomma ed è andato in macchina alla casa in campagna di mio suocero. Insieme hanno tirato fuori ed ispezionato un vecchio motore da barca e si sono portati sempre in macchina al molo dove hanno calato in acqua la vecchia scialuppa. Ora sono...chissá dove. Spero solo abbiano avuto la coscienza di portarsi due giubbotti di salvataggio.
